UPDATE: Authorities ID Man Killed At Minnesota Rest Stop
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Authorities have identified a man who was shot and killed at a highway rest stop in a Minneapolis suburb.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office says 23-year-old Matthew Paul Maffei died Wednesday of a gunshot wound to the head. His death has been ruled a homicide.
Maffei had no permanent address.
Authorities in Maple Grove found Maffei at the rest stop about 1:00 a.m. Wednesday.
Police found a vehicle that matched one believed to be involved in the shooting. The driver led them on a high-speed chase before crashing the sport utility vehicle on Interstate 694.
Authorities say 18-year-old Johnathon Dean Mar of Kennewick, Washington, then got out of that SUV with a weapon, and police opened fire, killing him.
The investigation is still ongoing.
