MINNETONKA (AP) — UnitedHealth Group says it plans to hire 1,700 employees in the Twin Cities over the next six months.

The Minnetonka-based health insurer on Monday also announced openings for 140 customer service representatives in Duluth and for more than 1,000 jobs that could be filled by people working from home anywhere in the country.

UnitedHealth Group is the largest health insurer in the country, with about 14,000 employees in Minnesota.

As of June 30, nearly 41.8 million people in the U.S. had medical insurance from UnitedHealthcare, up about 4 percent from a year earlier.

Job openings in the Twin Cities range from finance and business operations to information technology and sales support. In Duluth, UnitedHealth has scheduled a job fair for next week.
