MINNEAPOLIS (AP)  -- The University of Minnesota says the response to a call for shovelers at TCF Stadium has been overwhelming.

With hundreds of people showing up to get the stadium cleared of snow for a possible NFL game, the university said Thursday at midmorning that it no longer needed help until Friday.

The university promised between $9 and $10 an hour to remove snow from seating areas, concourses and the playing field. The Minnesota Vikings are waiting for NFL approval to use the stadium for its game against the Chicago Bears after the Metrodome roof caved under the heavy snow.

Some shovelers got tired of waiting in line to get checked in at the stadium Thursday and headed home.
