The Twins placed righthander Nick Blackburn on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right forearm.  Righthander Anthony Swarzak will replace Blackburn in the starting rotation.  Righthander Lester Oliveros was called up from triple-A Rochester to take Blackburn’s spot on the active roster.

Oliveros was acquired last week as the played to be named later in the Delmon Young trade.  He has a 6.10 ERA in 31 innings pitching at triple-A for Toledo and Rochester.  He has a fastball that has been clocked at 95 MPH.

The Twins placed designated hitter Jim Thome and outfielder Jason Kubel on trade waivers Monday.  The Twins could trade either player before August 31 or pull one or both players off waivers.
