Twins edged the Detroit Tigers 6-5 Wednesday night to win 2 of 3 games against Detroit this week.  Justin Morneau had a 2-out 2-run single with the bases loaded in the 9th inning to break the 4-all tie.  Joe Nathan allowed an earned run in the 9th inning but still records the save, his 11th.  Matt Capps helped bail out an ineffective Glen Perkins in the 8th inning to get the win.

Carl Pavano started the game and threw 7 innings with 9 hits and 3 earned runs allowed.  Rene Tosoni had a 2-run homerun and Jim Thome hit a solo homerun for the Twins.  Thome now has 12 homeruns this season and 601 in his career.

Minnesota is 54-68 and is 10 1/2 games back of Detroit for first place in the American League Central.  The Twins open a 4-game series and 11-game homestand against the New York Yankees tonight at 7:10, pregame on WJON at 6:40.  Lefthander Brian Duensing (8-11) gets the start on the mound for the Twins and lefthander C.C.
