The Twins defeated the Oakland A's 2-1 Friday night in their home opener at Target Field. Oakland took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and led until the 8th inning when the Twins got RBI singles from Denard Span and Joe Mauer. Carl Pavano threw 8 innings with 4 hits and 1 earned run allowed to get the win and improve to 1-1. Joe Nathan allowed 1 base runner in the 9th inning but recorded his 3rd save. Minnesota got 2 hits apiece from Denard Span and Delmon Young. The Twins are 3-4 and will host the Athletics again tonight at 6:05, pregame on WJON at 5:35. Righthander Nick Blackburn gets the start for the Twins and lefthander Gio Gonzalez will start for Oakland.
