CHATFIELD (AP) - A black bear that's been wandering around a residential neighborhood has been shot and killed by a Fillmore County sheriff's deputy and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources officer.

Chatfield police, county sheriff's deputies and the DNR responded to a report Sunday night about a black bear in a tree at a residential property. Officers tried using lights and noise to get the adult male bear to move on. The bear, weighing more than 200 pounds, came down from the tree, but stayed in the area.

That's when authorities decided to kill the bear. Officials say dispatchers have taken other calls of a bear in back yards and on porches in recent days.
