WAITE PARK -- A traffic violation led Waite Park police on a short chase early this morning (Thursday).

The Waite Park police department followed a vehicle that ran through a stop sign at high speeds along 6th Avenue and 1st Street South just before 3:00 a.m.

When an officer tried to catch up with the vehicle, the driver lost control and hit a tree in the 900 block of Sunwood Park Drive.

The suspects got out of the car and fled on foot in different directions.

Officers say the suspects were male in their late teens to mid 20s and they were wearing light colored shirts.

Officers from St. Cloud and Sartell Police Departments, Stearns County Sheriffs Office, Minnesota State Patrol and a police dog were called in to try and track the suspects.

Officers say the investigation is ongoing.
