ST. CLOUD --The East Central Minnesota Toward Zero Deaths Leadership Team hosted their first regional workshop in St. Cloud today (Tuesday).

The group's goal is to have zero vehicle related deaths in Minnesota. Representatives from the Minnesota State Patrol, Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Safety met to discuss the results of 2012's crash facts.

MNDOT deputy commissioner Bernard Arseneau says road deaths have decreased since 2003.

The workshop also focused on how people can reduce distractions while driving. One of the leading causes of distracted driving is cell phone use.

Traffic Safety Coordinator, Gordy Pehrson says that while cell phone use is legal for some people, texting is illegal for everyone.

The Toward Zero Death team says the leading causes of death in Central Minnesota are not wearing a seatbelt, impaired driving, aggressive driving and inattentive driving.
