WAITE PARK -- Quarry Park is hosting a series of tours that educate the public about the history and geology of the park.

Today was the second park of the three-Saturday series of tours.

The day included two three-hour tours, followed by one-hour, limited mobility tours into the afternoon.

Geologist Bradford Folta leads the tours and says it's a fun way to experience the park and learn about its history and geologic characteristics.

"I give a brief history of the mines and the mining processes that they went through," Folta says.

"I give an in-depth analysis on what's going on geologically and give everyone the chance to think like a geologist."

Folta says he enjoys his opportunity to lead the tours and educate the people.

"It helps me become a better educator to the public," Folta says.

"The other part is I love watching people learn about the environment around them - that they walk on every day, but they have no idea about. So if I can open up someone's mind to what's around them, it makes my day...because now they understand the world and the earth better."

The next day of tours is next Saturday, October 4th beginning at 8:00 a.m.
