LONDON, ENGLAND - Today (Monday) we continue our countdown of the Top 10 local stories of the year with our number six story.  It's a story that actually played-out across the pond over in London.

During the Games of the XXX Olympiad July 27th through August 12th, we were fortunate enough to have not just one, but two, women from Stearns County competing for Team USA.

St. Cloud Tech graduate Alise Post competed in the BMX bike event, which made her dad and the rest of friends and family very proud.

Post started strong, finishing third in the semi finals, but then crashed her bike in the final two races.

Melrose native Amanda Smock also went to the Olympics in Track and Field's Triple Jump.

Smock  finished 27th out of 35 jumpers in the prelims, and failed to qualify for the finals.

Even though neither of our local young women brought home an Olympic Medal, their accomplishments made everyone is central Minnesota proud.

Coming-up on Wednesday, we'll have the next story in our recap of the Top 10 stories of 2012, when we tell you about the number five story of the year.
