Thousands of Anglers to Compete in Brainerd Jaycee’s Ice Fishing Extravaganza
BRAINERD -- As many as 12,000 anglers will wet a line on Gull Lake's Hole in the Day Bay tomorrow (Saturday) for a chance at winning a new pickup truck, four-wheeler or ice castle fish house.
The 24th Annual Brainerd Jaycee's $150,000 Ice Fishing Extravaganza is the largest charitable ice fishing contest in the world.
Event co-chair Sara Stenerson says there are some new features this year like a "jumbotron" screen with the leader board and tent city now located at center ice.
There is also a side contest this year where for five-dollars, anglers can have a chance to win a $9,000 ice fishing prize package. If you catch the biggest fish of that mystery species, you win the prize.
