Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud, MN for Thomas John Caulfield, Jr. age 94. He died on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Ecuman Assisted Living in Apple Valley, MN. Entombment will be in Assumption Mausoleum in St. Cloud.

Visitation will be on Monday, May18, 2015 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud, and one hour prior to the services at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church. Parish Prayers will be at 7:00 P.M. on Monday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Caulfield was born on July 20, 1919 in St. Paul, MN the son of Thomas J. and Frances B. (Ginther) Caulfield. He graduated from St. Mark’s School and Central High School in St. Paul. Mr. Caulfield later enlisted into the United States Marine Corps on May 23, 1941. He served his country during WWII in the South Pacific. While in the Marine’s he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.

He then returned to Minnesota as a student at the University of Minnesota, and graduated in 1948. He also earned an MBA from Harvard University in 1958. Mr. Caulfield then took a position in business and accepted a commission into the Air Force Reserve and was later called to active duty in the Air Force at the Commencement of the Korean War. Over the years, Mr. Caulfield served in the U.S. Air Force in many capacities and eventually earned the rank of Lt. Colonel on February 18, 1966. He retired from the Air Force on February 1, 1972 having served in active duty for over 28 years.

On February 25, 1952, he was united in marriage to Kathleen Marie Beckers at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City, NY. While in the service they lived in various places around the world and after retirement from the service they made their home in Duluth before moving to St. Cloud in 1975. Mr. Caulfield then worked for the City of St. Cloud as a city administrator retiring in 1982. After Mrs. Caulfield died on October 27, 1984, he moved to St. Paul, MN. He was married to Evelyn Chamberlain Shaffer on March 14, 1986. Tom and Evelyn then made their home in Richfield, MN. After Evelyn died on July 20, 2005, Tom continued to live in the Twin Cities area.

He was currently a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Richfield, MN and a past member of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud. He most recently attended Risen Savior Catholic Church in Burnsville, MN. He was also a member of St. Cloud Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Father Pierz Assembly #530 and was a life member of Eastside V.F.W. Post #4847.

In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by one sister Joan Koppit.

He is survived by his four children; Patrick (Marlys) of Canon City, CO, Mark (Melissa) of Golden Valley, MN, and Maureen Guion and Tara (Kyle) Handorff both of Lakeville, MN, one step-daughter Sandy (Craig) Brooks of Buffalo City, WI, six grandchildren Derek, Katrina, and Michael Caulfield, Kathleen and John Guion, Christina Eckart; and three step-grandhildren, Jessica, Ian, and Megan Brooks, other relatives and many friends.
