ST. CLOUD - The House Disrict 14A seat will stay in Republican hands.  Tama Theis of St. Cloud won a special election today (Tuesday) for the open seat.

Theis got 55 percent of the vote (2,670).  Her Democratic challenger Joanne Dorsher of St. Cloud had 43 percent (2,091).  And Independence Party candidate Todd McKee of Waite Park had three percent (130).  There were seven write-in votes.

For Theis this will be her first time serving in state politics.  And she'll have to learn quickly as she joins a State Legislature that's already in session.

Theis co-owns Greg E.Theis Remodeling with her husband.

The seat became vacant when former State Representative Steve Gottwalt of St. Cloud officially resigned the day before the session began.
