ST. CLOUD - A state representative from St. Cloud is going to bat for STRIDE Academy. Republican Tama Theis says shes spent the past couple of weeks looking into what the options are for saving the St. Cloud charter school, including making another plea to the authorizer.

Hopefully I'll be touching base with the person on the board from Friends of Education and see if we can't find a way to allow STRIDE to stay open.

However, Theis says her hands may be tied as far as getting the state legislature involved.

It would be difficult for us to do something legislatively, and we really don't want to set a precedent like that.  But we are looking at a few things, one is parent petitioning.

Current authorizer "Friends of Education" has opted not to renew STRIDE's contract, which has forced the school to announce their closure at the end of this school year.
