ST. CLOUD -- Live animals, indoor fishing, classic speed boats and resort getaways are just some of the highlights in this year's St. Cloud Sportsmen's Show which kicked off today at the River's Edge Convention Center.

Hundreds of sportsmen and outdoor enthusiasts came out for the first day in the weekend-long convention. Show manager Barry Cenaiko says it was a great start for the event which is in its 27th year.

"We had a great opening [today], more people than I remember for a Friday afternoon," Cenaiko says.

"We're really excited because it means Saturday and Sunday [attendances] should be right through the roof."

The Sportsmen's Show offers fun for the whole family with exhibits featuring live animals and an indoor trout fishing pond.

At the fishing pond, kids get to hone their angling skills by trying to catch one of the over 700 trout brought to the event.

This year's show is the largest it's ever been, as just about every room in the convention center is packed with exhibits, seminars, boats, RVs, and other things on display.

"We're using every square inch of River's Edge," Cenaiko says. "There's nowhere you can walk [here] and not see some of our exhibits."

"We've never been bigger and its really fun."
