ST. CLOUD -- The 2013 Youth of The Year competition kicks off at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday) at the Eastside Boys and Girls Club in St. Cloud.

Each year students ages 14 through 18 compete for a scholarship and a chance to be Minnesota's State Youth of the Year. Participants must be active within the boys and girls program for at least two years and  be nominated by their club.

This year there are four youths nominated in Central Minnesota, Andrew Guettler, Bryan Court, Hope Kenyon and Jerry Akubue.

Boys and Girls club of Central Minnesota Marketing Manager, Aimee Minnerath says the nominees are all outstanding leaders within the community.

Each nominee must prepare a three minute speech about how the Boys and Girls Club has impacted their lives and what their plans are for the future.

Directly proceeding the speeches the youth will meet with five different judges for individual interview sessions.The judges will then decide the 2013 Central Minnesota Youth of the Year.

The winner will move on to the state competition on April 8th.
