ST. CLOUD -- Despite the chilly weather, students and community members gathered inside of Tech High School's South Auditorium for "Mini We-Day" last night (Friday).

Tech High School officially became a "We School In Action" in 2011. We-Schools began in Canada, and encourage students to engage in local and global action services.

Students planned "Mini We-Day" as a way to celebrate meeting their basic requirements that make them eligible to remain a "We-School."

The group collected over 2,800 pounds of food for the local food shelves, and raised over $1000 for clean water projects that are supported by a group called "Free The Children."

St. Cloud Mayor, Dave Kleis was among those to speak about civic engagement. Guests also spoke with Tech alum and Olympian, Alise Post via Skype. She shared her personal experiences responding to homelessness and bullying.

Group adviser, Jennifer Day says she hopes the event will help recruit more members.

The group has grown from a size of 39 members in 2011 to more than 60. They hope to recruit more students in 2013.
