SAUK RAPIDS -- Two cultures have come together under one roof in the Sauk Rapids-Rice School District.

With the help of the Confucius Institute at St. Cloud State University, teachers from China are giving local students a taste of their culture.

Carmen Gong teaches at Sauk Rapids-Rice Middle and says it's not about learning the language but rather understanding Chinese culture.

"My duty is to get the students interested in another culture and if they choose they can further their studies in the future."

Vicky Qin is a post graduate student and now teaches at Pleasantview Elementary. She says she has always wanted to be a teacher and this partnership brings her a unique experience.

"The first week they only knew how to say hello. Now they can say hello, say the colors and numbers in Chinese."

Sauk Rapids-Rice has been bringing teachers from China to the school district since 2015. The relationship has been made possible with the Confucius Classroom Grant.
