Target Hiring Fewer Seasonal Workers

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Target Corp. says it plans to hire fewer employees for the upcoming holiday season.

The Minneapolis-based retailer said Monday it plans to add 80,000 to 90,000 seasonal workers across the country, down from the 92,000 it hired last year.

Company officials say one reason for the decline is that about 30 percent of the seasonal workers hired last year moved into permanent positions. Hiring for Target's stores started in October and will continue through December.

The retailer says it's seeking to fill a variety of hourly positions, including sales floor employees, cashiers and backroom staff.
