Vikings Host Bills Tonight In 2nd Preseason Game

The Vikings will host Buffalo tonight in their 2nd preseason game at 7pm, pregame on AM 1390-the Fan at 5:00. The Vikings are expected to play their starters into the 2nd quarter including Percy Harvin, Jared Allen, Antoine Winfield and Kevin Williams. None of the before mentioned players played at San Francisco last Friday. The Vikings lost to the 49ers 17-6 on August 10.

Twins to Callup Carson; Activate Swarzak

The Twins have activated righthanded relief pitcher Anthony Swarzak from the 15-day disabled list and are expected to call up corner outfielder 31-year old Matt Carson from triple-A Rochester. Swarzak has been on the disabled list since July 25 with a right rotator cuff strain. Carson is hitting .277 with 14 homeruns and 49 RBIs at triple-A Rochester.

Waite Park 13AAA Goes 2-0 In World Series

The Waite Park 13AAA youth baseball team defeated host team, Kitsap, Washington in Kitsap 3-2 late Thursday night to improve to 2-0 in pool play. Michael Petron went 2-4 with 1 RBI and Peter Nelson threw 3 shutout innings for the Silverstars. Both teams had 9 hits.

Rox Bringing Back Manager, Rodriguez

The St. Cloud Rox are bringing back field manager Augie Rodriguez for a 3rd year in St. Cloud. Rodriguez spent one season as field manager of the St. Cloud River Bats before managing the Rox in 2012. The Rox were 29-41 overall this past season but were 20-16 in the 2nd half of the season.

Vikings Break Camp In Mankato; Host Bills Friday

The Vikings broke camp in Mankato Wednesday and will host Buffalo Friday night in their 2nd preseason game at 7pm, pregame on AM 1390-the Fan at 5:00. The Vikings were at camp in Mankato since July 26 and will now resume training camp activities at their Winter Park facility in Eden Prairie.

Tigers, Scherzer Beat Twins 5-1

The Twins lost 5-1 at home against the Detroit Tigers Wednesday afternoon. Max Scherzer threw 7 shutout innings with 4 hits and 2 walks allowed with 10 strikeouts to get the win. Cole DeVries allowed 8 hits and 4 earned runs in 4 innings to take the loss and drop to 2-4. Miguel Cabrera hit his 30th homerun this season and has become the 1st Tigers player to hit 30 or more homeruns in 5 straight seasons.

WJON Keeps The Twins In St. Cloud

WJON Radio/Townsquare Media of St. Cloud has come to an agreement on a 3-year contract extension with the Minnesota Twins to air the games in Central Minnesota. WJON has aired the Twins in St. Cloud for more than 30 years. The Twin Cities affiliate of the Twins will change in 2013 from KSTP AM 1500 to KTWN (96.3FM).

The Waite Park 13 and under youth baseball team won their first game 3-0 at the 13AAA Babe Ruth World Series over Westfield, Massachusetts today in Kitsap, Washington. Joey Atkinson was selected as the most valuable player for the game.

Twins Option Dozier; Callup Florimon

The Twins optioned shortstop Brian Dozier to triple-A Rochester and called up shortstop Pedro Florimon. Dozier is hitting .234 this season with 6 homeruns and 33 RBIs for the Twins. Florimon began the season at double-A and was hitting .251 with 3 homeruns and 27 RBIs at triple Rochester.
