The Twins lost 5-1 at Seattle Sunday and were swept away in the 3-game series. The Twins have lost 5 straight games. Blake Beavan threw 5 1/3 innings with 7 hits and 1 earned runs to get the win and Sam Deduno allowed 5 hits and 2 earned runs allowed to take the loss. Deduno also walked 6. Trevor Plouffe drove in the lone Twins' run with a sacrifice fly and Ryan Doumit had 2 hits for Minnesota.

The Minnesota Lynx defeated Tulsa 83-59 Sunday to clinch a playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Lynx needed just 21 games to clinch a playoff spot while last season it took 26 games. Maya Moore led the Lynx with 22 points, Lindsay Whalen added 15 points and Seimone Augustus contributed 14.

The Waite Park 13AAA team suffered their first loss in the 13AAA Babe Ruth World Series in Kitsap, Washington Sunday 12-2 to Bryant, Arkansas. Joey Atkinson allowed 6 earned runs in 3 innings to take the loss. Atkinson was 2-2 with 1 RBI and Chris Backes was 2-3 with a run scored for the Silverstars.

The Cold Spring Springers defeated Red Wing 6-5 Sunday in the Class B Super Sections. Cold Spring scored 4 runs in the 5th inning to propel themselves to the win. Cold Spring will play the Austin Hounds at 5pm at Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud in the Class B State Tournament.

St. John's University football coach John Gagliardi is preparing to start his sixth decade at the helm of the Johnnie football program. That's right the Gagliardi era at Collegeville began 60 years ago in the fall of 1953. I recently had the opportunity to sit down with coach Gagliardi and visit with him about his early coaching years, and have him look ahead to his future.

Thousands of people took a stroll down memory lane on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Sauk Rapids. The 37th annual Pantowners Classic Car show was held again this year at the Benton County Fairgrounds. With a DJ blasting music from the 1950's in the background, there was a steady stream of onlookers checking out the cars. Some reminiscing about cars they used to have, some dreaming about owning a classic car in the future.

Diamond threw 6 2/3 innings with 9 hits and 2 earned runs allowed and didn't figure in the final decision. John Jaso hit the game-winning sacrifice fly in the 9th inning off Casey Fien but Tyler Robertson takes the loss for the Twins. Matt Carson was 3-4 and Pedor Florimon was 2-3 for the Twins. Justin Morneau and Joe Maer each had 1 RBI.

The Twins lost 5-3 at Seattle against the Mariners Friday night. Hasashi Iwakuma threw 7 innings with 4 hits and 1 earned run allowed to get the win for the Mariners. Nick Blackburn allowed 11 hits and 5 earned runs in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss for the Twins. Joe Mauer went 2-4 with a solo homerun and Josh Willingham hit a solo homerun, his 31st. Matt Carson in his Twins' debut was 1-4 with 1 RBI and Pedro Florimon in his Twins' debut was 0-3.

The Vikings routed the Buffalo Bills 36-14 Friday night at Mall of America Field. Christian Ponder was 10-13 passing for 136 yards and 1 touchdown with no interceptions. His one touchdown pass was to Jerome Felton from 1-yard out. Emanuel Arceneaux had 2 catches for 50 yards and Jerome Simpson had 3 catches for 43 yards for Minnesota. Rookie Audie Cole had 2 interception return touchdowns in the 2nd half.

The Class C State Amateur Baseball tournament begins today in St. Cloud at Dick Putz and Joe Faber Field. The tournament hasn't been in St. Cloud since 2002 and this will be the first time that Putz and Faber Fields will be used for the tournament. In 2002 Putz and Cold Spring Park were used. The Co-Chairs of the tournament in St. Cloud are Andy Auger and Pete Cheeley. Auger says this is the first time since 1982 at the tournament can be held in one location without needing to drive.
