DOE: Seventeen Percent of State Energy Comes From Wind
The U.S. Department of Energy says Minnesota is near the top of the list of states in generating wind power. Nearly 17 percent of the state's energy comes from wind. The department says there are only nine states in the country that have more than 12 percent of power generated by the wind.
Xcel Plans to Tap More Wind Power
Xcel Energy plans to capitalize on what could be a buyer's market for wind energy this year. The Minneapolis-based utility has told regulators in Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Dakotas that it will look for up to 200 megawatts of wind power by April 1.
