Verso Paper is planning to make an announcement about their Sartell Paper Mill this (Thursday) afternoon. The news conference is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

Minnesota loggers are feeling the effects of the fire and explosion at the Verso Paper mill in Sartell.

On October 11th, 2011, Verso Paper company declared their intention to reduce their production and workforce significantly. This was to significantly affect jobs at the plant in Sartell, vaulting it to number four in our Top Ten stories of 2011 countdown.

Layoffs are beginning this week at the Verso Paper Corp. plant in Sartell, where 175 workers were told in October they'd be losing their jobs.

Some employees at Verso Paper have until Tuesday to decide whether to accept a retirement package or be laid off by the end of the year.

Verso Paper in Sartell has announced plans to permanently cut 175 employees. The company says they will shutdown two paper machines at the Sartell facility effective on December 14th, which will eliminate about 103,000 tons of paper capacity each year.
