Parents, students, and staff at Stride Academy can breathe a little easier.

St. Cloud charter school Stride Academy is looking forward to the new school year, after a summer of work trying to make sure the school stays open.

STRIDE Academy will have a new principal leading them this fall. Diane Moeller has been selected to fill the position.

STRIDE Academy has hired a new executive director. School Board chair Sara Fromm says they have hired Eric Williams. He has most recently served as the Executive Director of Nova Classical Academy in St. Paul.

Stride Academy has been given new life, and will be open at least one more school year. "Friends of Education", Stride's authorizer, has decided to extend the charter's contract.

Athlos Academy and Math & Science Academy are gearing up for the next school year with both expecting to see enrollment increases. Since the announcement of Stride Academy closing at the end of this school year, both charter schools say the closure will impact their upcoming school years.

A state representative from St. Cloud is going to bat for STRIDE Academy. Republican Tama Theis says she's spent the past couple of weeks looking into what the options are for saving the St. Cloud charter school, including making another plea to the authorizer.

As officials at Stride Academy work to keep the school open, parents have some tough decisions to make about where their kids will attend school in the fall.
