Minn. Rally Shows GOP Rift On Health Exchange Bill

A rift among Republicans over a piece of the federal health care overhaul was showing Thursday at a Capitol rally. Several GOP lawmakers spoke against a Republican bill to establish a state health insurance exchange. The federal law requires states to start exchanges for consumers to buy insurance starting in 2014.

Gottwalt: House Budget Bill Doesn’t Cut Spending, Just Slows It [AUDIO]

Republicans in the House and Senate released their proposed budget targets for the next two-year budget cycle. The House's budget calls for nearly $34 billion in spending in the next budget. Republican State Representative Steve Gottwalt of St. Cloud says that's actually an increase in spending -- just not as big of an increase as in previous years.

State Budget Forecast Trims 1.2 Billion Dollars From Deficit

The assessment by the Minnesota Management and Budget department shows that federal cuts in payroll taxes and a delay in higher capital gains taxes has taken the projected budget deficit from 6.2 billion dollars to 5 billion for the upcoming 2012-2013 fiscal biennium.

Banaian, Gottwalt Split Votes On $1 Billion In Cuts [AUDIO]

The Minnesota House passed $1 billion in state budget cuts in a close vote. The bill passed on a 69-63 vote. State Representative King Banaian of St. Cloud was one of four Republicans that voted against it. He says he didn't feel there was enough discussion about the bill.
