The Minnesota Board of Animal Health says one of the first farms in Stearns County to be hit by the Midwest bird flu outbreak is set to restock with turkeys in the coming days. It'll be the second Minnesota poultry farm to resume production. The board says a Pope County turkey farm that was the first in the region to record a confirmed case of H5N2 avian influenza was restocked on Sunday.
A portion of the Lake Wobegon Trail one mile west of Melrose is closed after heavy rains caved in a culvert. Trail users looking to use the portion of the trail will be re-routed for two miles onto adjacent county roads.
The Stearns County Sheriff's Office has placed a "No Wake" request for Two Rivers Lake until water levels go down. Due to the large amount of rain over the weekend, the water levels on the lake rose very fast and caused high water and flooding issues.
Stearns County is auctioning off nearly 50 tax forfeited properties. The auction is tomorrow (Thursday) at the Stearns County Service Center in Waite Park. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. with the auction starting at 6:30 p.m.
Stearns County is holding a community meeting to talk about the avian influenza. It will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the Melrose City Center. It's open to anyone, but those impacted in any way by the outbreak are strongly encouraged to attend.
Stearns County is close to opening another swimming quarry. Quarry 11 at the Stearns County Quarry Park & Nature Preserve will provide more gradual slopes, swimming platform, bathrooms and picnic shelter for families.
Two people were hurt in a one vehicle crash near St. Rosa on Tuesday night. The incident happened just before 11:30 p.m. on County Road 17 east of Sunset Beach Road in Millwood Township, two miles northwest of St. Rosa. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says 71-year-old Russell Sieben of Melrose was traveling westbound of County Road 17.
A Rice man was taken to the hospital after he accidentally shot himself in the leg. The incident happened on Sunday just after 9:45 p.m. at 9789 County Road 131 in Brockway Township. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office responded to a gunshot complaint and found 24-year-old John Smoley of Rice on the kitchen floor with a gunshot wound to his left leg.
