St. Cloud State Baseball

The St. Cloud State baseball team defeated Minnesota State-Mankato 3-2 Friday to advance to the NSIC championship. SCSU scored 2 first inning runs and held on to win. Mike Jurgella was 2-3 with 1 RBI and both Joey Benke and Brian Hansen had 2 hits apiece and 1 run scored. Scott Leiser threw 7 innings with 6 hits and 1 earned run allowed to get the win. MSU-Mankato defeated Augustana 10-1 to advance to the championship to play SCSU again.

The St. Cloud State baseball team is 2-0 in the NSIC tournament after beating Winona State 3-2 Thursday night. Shawn Riesgraf threw 8 innings with 8 hits and 2 earned runs allowed to get the win and improve to 9-1 this season. Joey Benke was 3-4 with 2 RBIs and Garrett Fischer was 3-4 with a run scored and 1 RBI for the Huskies.

The St. Cloud State baseball team downed Augustana 6-4 Wednesday afternoon in Mankato in their first game of the NSIC tournament. Logan Birr threw 6 innings with 6 hits and 3 earned runs allowed to get the win. Birr notched 11 strikeouts. Travis Cariveau was 2-5 with a run scored and 3 RBIs and Garrett Fischer was 2-4 with 2 runs scored for the Huskies.

The St. Cloud State baseball team will play Augustana today at noon in the first game of the NSIC tournament in Mankato. The Huskies are seeded #2 with Augustana seeded #5. If SCSU wins today they will play at 7pm Thursday night. The tournament is double elimination and will continue through Saturday. MSU-Mankato is the #1 seed and will play 6th seeded Minnesota-Duluth tonight at 7pm.

The St. Cloud State baseball team swept Augustana 3-2 and 11-1 in 7 innings Sunday to grab the #2 seed in the upcoming NSIC tournament. Nick Maiers threw 7 innings with 7 hits and 2 earned runs allowed to get the win. Garrett Fischer went 2-3 in game 1 for the Huskies. SCSU improves to 42-10.

The St. Cloud State baseball team downed Upper Iowa in Fayette, Iowa Wednesday afternoon twice 9-1 and 10-5. In game 1 SCSU was led by Garrett Fischer going 4-4 with 4 runs scored and 1 RBI and Logan Birr threw 6 innings with 5 hits and 1 earned run to get the win for SCSU. Birr sets a school record for wins in the season with 9.

The St. Cloud State baseball team defeated St. John's 10-5 at Joe Faber Field Monday night. SCSU scored 3 runs in the 5th inning, added 2 in the 6th and scored 2 more in the 7th. Nick Maiers threw 6 innings with 8 hits and 5 earned runs allowed to get the win. Steve Rindelaub went 3-3 with a run scored and 3 RBIs and Brian Hansen went 2-4 with 2 RBIs for the Huskies.

The St. Cloud State baseball team won a pair of games against Minnesota-Crookston 7-0 and 18-0 Sunday afternoon. SCSU won both games against MN-Crookston Friday too. SCSU allowed a total of 5 hits in the 2 games Sunday. Kyle Fischer threw 7 shutout innings with 4 hits allowed and 5 strikeouts to get the win for the Huskies. Brian Hansen had 2 hits, 2 runs and 3 RBIs in game 1 for SCSU. In game two Phil Imholte was 2-4 with 3 runs scored and 4 RBIs and Garrett Fischer was 2-3 with 3 RBIs for the Huskies.

The St. Cloud State baseball team scored a combined 37 runs and had 39 hits in their doubleheader sweep of Northern State Wednesday. SCSU won game 1 16-2 and won game 2 21-12. Joey Peters had a homerun and 3 RBIs and Brian Hansen had 3 hits, 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs in game 1 for SCSU.

College Baseball: St. Cloud State 7, Concordia-St. Paul 2 (Kyle Fischer threw a complete-game 5-hit shutout to get the win. Joey Benke hit a 3-run homerun for SCSU). St. Cloud State 10, Concordia-St. Paul 3 (Joey Benke was 2-3 with a run scored for SCSU. The Huskies are 29-10 overall and 14-6 in the NSIC)
