The St. Cloud Area School District has approved moving ahead with construction plans and creating designs for a $17 million early childhood facility near Discovery Community School. District 742 has been searching for a permanent home for early childhood education since a fire heavily damaged the Roosevelt building in the summer of 2014.

A new early childhood facility for the St. Cloud area school district could emerge on property near Discovery Community School in Waite Park. District 742 Superintendent Willie Jett says the district considered 20-40 sites for the facility before narrowing the list.

With a deadline looming, the St. Cloud area school district is still looking for a permanent home for their early childhood programs. The programs are temporarily in Colts Academy in St. Joseph. The district sold that building to the city last year and needs to vacate it by July 1st, 2017.
