Cubs Sign Former Twin, Scott Baker
Scott Baker is not returning to the Twins. Baker agreed to terms on a 1-year $5.5 Million contract with incentives for another $1.5 Million. Baker sat out all of the 2012 season after having Tommy John surgery in the spring. Baker may not be ready when the regular season starts. The Twins were trying to re-sign Baker after declining the $9.2 Million option for this season.

The Twins declined to pick up the $9.25 Million team option on Scott Baker's contract making him eligible from free agency. The Twins would like Baker to return but not for that price. Baker missed all of the 2012 season after getting ligament replacement surgery on his elbow (Tommy John Surgery). The 31-year old Baker has a 63-48 record with a 4.15 ERA while with the Twins in his career.

Twins righthander Scott Baker received Tommy John surgery Tuesday along with the replacing of pronator flexor tendon in his right elbow. Twins General Manager Terry Ryan said the doctor had prepped Baker for the posibility of the replacement of the Ulnar collateral ligament (Tommy John surgery) in his right elbow. Doctors determined that the UCL had to be replacement too. Baker's rehab will now but much longer than the 6 months that was originally forecasted.

Twins righthanded starting pitcher Scott Baker will have surgery to repair the flexor pronator tendon in his right elbow and will not play this season. The tendon has bothered Baker for the last couple of seasons and he says he can no longer pitch with the pain. The surgery will require 6 months of recap but the surgery is not Tommy John surgery.

The Twins also optioned righthanded starting pitcher Jason Marquis to AA-New Britain to get a couple starts before rejoining the team. He's been away from the team for the past 2 weeks attending to his injured 7-year daughter.

Scott Baker made his first appearance in more than 2 weeks and allowed 7 hits and 7 earned runs in 2 2/3 innings to take the loss. He had missed time with right arm tendinitis. Ryan Doumit hit a homerun with 2 RBIs and Brian Dinkleman went 2-2 with a run and 1 RBI.
