Marco Scutaro's line drive single scored Ryan Theriot with the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning, and the San Francisco Giants beat the Detroit Tigers, 4-3, on Sunday night in Detroit to complete a four-game sweep of the 2012 World Series.
The San Francisco Giants took a 2 games to none series lead with a 2-0 win over Detroit in Game 2 of the World Series Thursday night. Brandon Crawford grounded into a double play to score the first round in the 7th inning and Hunter Pence drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the 8th inning for the Giants. Madison Bumgarner threw 7 shutout innings with 2 hits allowed to get the win. Doug Fister allowed 1 earned run in 6 innings to take the loss.
The San Francisco Giants defeated the Detroit Tigers in Game 1 of the World Series 8-3 Wednesday night. Pablo Sandoval was 4-4 with homeruns in his first 3 at bats and he finished with 4 RBIs and Marco Scutaro had 2 hits and 2 RBIs for the Giants. Barry Zito threw 5 2/3 innings with 1 earned run allowed to get the win and Justin Verlander allowed 6 hits and 5 earned runs in 4 innings to take the loss.
NLCS Game 3
The St. Louis Cardinals defeated San Francisco 3-1 Wednesday night to take a 2 games to 1 series lead. Kyle Lohse threw 5 2/3 innings with 7 hits and 1 earned run allowed to get the win. Matt Carpenter hit a 2-run homerun for the Cardinals. Game 4 is tonight in St. Louis at 7pm tonight. Tim Linecum will start on the mound for the Giants and righthander Adam Wainwright for the Cardinals.
NLCS Game 2
San Francisco defeated St. Louis 7-1 Monday night in game 2 of the NLCS. Ryan Vogelsong threw 7 innings with 4 hits and 1 earned run allowed to get the win. Ryan Theriot and Marco Scutaro each had 2 RBIs for the Giants. Scutaro left the game with a hip injury after he was taken out on a slide to 2nd base. The series is even at 1 game apiece with game 3 in St. Louis at 3pm on Wednesday.
NLCS Game 1
The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the San Francisco Giants 6-4 in game 1 of the National League Championship series Sunday night. David Freese and Carlos Beltran each hit 2-run homeruns for the Cardinals. The Giants made a comeback with 4 runs in the 4th inning. Game 2 of the NLCS will take place tonight in San Francisco at 7pm (CT). Ryan Vogelsong will start on the mound for the Giants and Chris Carpenter gets the ball for the Cardinals.
