The data from the American Community Survey released Thursday shows that poverty rate increased from 11 percent in 2009 to 11.6 percent last year.

The poverty rate is now at 15.1 percent. It translates unto nearly 1 in 6 Americans. Minnesota's poverty rate is at 10.8 percent or 544-thousand people in poverty.
