The students and staff at Pleasantview Elementary in Sauk Rapids are just a few days away now from checking out the brand new school.

Residents in the Sauk Rapids-Rice school district have agreed to invest $37.1 million to replace Pleasantview Elementary School with a new school building on the current site.

It is likely the residents in the Sauk Rapids-Rice school district will be asked to approve a referendum this fall to pay for a brand new Pleasantview Elementary school.

We now know the cause of the fire that took place at Pleasantview Elementary back in January.

A community task force will recommend in June that the Sauk Rapids-Rice School District build a fourth elementary school and replace Pleasantview Elementary with a new building. Sauk Rapids-Rice is grappling with space concerns due to growing enrollment numbers (the district has grown by 800 students within the last six years).

It's a trend many schools are looking into. Getting away from the standard desk seating to a more alternative seating arrangement. Pleasantview Elementary Principal Aby Froiland says several teachers were looking at trying to keep students more active in the classroom.
