As Minnesota's moose population declines, more people are asking why the state still allows hunting of the iconic animals. Despite ongoing research, nobody yet understands for sure why moose are disappearing from Minnesota.
Preliminary figures show hunters registered 45 bull moose during northeastern Minnesota's 2012 moose season. The Department of Natural Resources issued 87 permits for the bulls-only season, down from 96 in 2011.
Despite the sharp decline in the state's moose population, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has decided to allow a moose hunting season this fall.
