Health Care Spending Rate Falls In Minnesota

Health care spending in Minnesota rose to $36 billion in 2009, but state officials say the rate of growth fell to its lowest level in more than a decade. A new report from the Minnesota Department of Health says the recession caused the slower rate of growth as some Minnesotans lost coverage or reduced health care visits.

New Data Mixed On Health Of Minnesota Kids’ Teeth

The Minnesota Department of Health has screened the oral health of a random group of third graders for the first time, and found mixed results. The department reports that nearly two-thirds of the state's third graders have protective dental sealants on their teeth, far higher than the national average of 23 percent.

The Minnesota Department of Health blames poor training and supervision for the death of a resident at a St. Cloud nursing home. The resident slipped out of a mechanical lift at St. Benedict's Senior Community last June and hit her head on the floor.
