Eurasian watermilfoil has been discovered growing in Middle Spunk Lake near Avon. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says the nonnative, invasive aquatic plant was discovered rooted at various locations along the eastern side of the lake to a depth of nearly 12 feet.
The Avon Beach restoration project that was delayed by heavy rain and high water this summer is expected to get underway next month. Spokesman Ray Schmidt says they couldn't do any work on the new retaining wall until the water level dropped.
Record high water levels on Middle Spunk Lake in Avon has put the public beach restoration on hold. Project spokesman Russ Schmidt says the water is just too high. He says he has talked with local residents who say it hasn't been this high in more than 50 years.
A plan to restore the Avon City Beach is a step closer to reality after the Stearns County Board approved a plan to use Parkland Dedication Funds from three Avon-area townships.
