It has been over a year since a devastating fire destroyed St. Mary's Church in Melrose and now the community is left searching for answers. In response to several months of discussion the church community will be gathering on the steps of St. Mary's Cathedral in St. Cloud Saturday night to fight for a full restoration of the Melrose church.
Governor Mark Dayton is lending Melrose a helping hand after a devastating fire destroyed a portion of the city's downtown and to help with building an electrical substation to expand business operations to the east side of the city.
Crews fought a building fire in downtown Melrose yesterday (Thursday). The Melrose Police Department says crews were called to a building at the corner of Main Street and 4th Avenue shortly after 12:30 p.m..
Soot covered walls, char-coaled ceilings and the smell of smoke remain from a tragic fire inside an over 100-year-old church in Melrose. Authorities believe an arsonist started the blaze inside Saint Mary's Church back on March 11th.
