Pitchers and catchers report to spring training in Fort Myers, Florida Saturday with the full squad required to report by Thursday February 23. Twins General Manager Terry Ryan says first baseman Justin Morneau and catcher Joe Mauer are both healthy. Ryan also says he expects the group of starting pitchers to succeed this season much like they did in 2010.

Twins' catcher Joe Mauer spoke to the media Monday afternoon and says pneumonia caused the premature end to his season. He insisted that the illness was too much for him to play with and he would have if he could have. Mauer played just 82 games this season and hit .287 with 3 homeruns and 30 RBIs.

The White Sox beat the Twins 8-6 Tuesday night despite holding 3 run leads twice in the game. Minnesota led 3-0 and 6-3 before allowed 5 unanswered runs. The New York Yankees beat the Twins 8-4 Thursday night in the first game of a 4-game series at Target Field. Joe Mauer was forced to play right field because of injuries to Matt Tolbert, Jason Kubel and Denard Span. Mauer made the routine plays and was 1-3 at the plate with 1 RBI. Tsuyoshi Nishioka went 2-4 with a run scored and 1 RBI and Ben Revere was 2-5 with 1 RBI.

Twins Activate Mauer, Perkins

The Twins have activated catcher Joe Mauer and relief pitcher Glen Perkins from the disabled list Thursday. Mauer has been out since April 12 with leg weakness and has spent the last few weeks rehabbing in Fort Myers, Florida. Mauer spoke a press conference Thursday and stressed the amount of work that has gone into him returning.

Twins' catcher Joe Mauer is scheduled to be activated from the disabled list Friday and start against the San Diego Padres at catcher. Mauer completed his rehab assignment at Class A Fort Myers Wednesday after facing live pitching against teammate Joe Nathan. Mauer has been out of the lineup since April 12 because of leg weakness.
