Sophomore Max Shortell will get the start at quarterback with Gray out. Gopher head coach Jerry Kill says there isn't a quarterback controversy with Shortell and Gray and that freshman Philip Nelson will be the backup to Shortell this Saturday.

The University of Minnesota has extended the contract of head football coach Jerry Kill by 2 additional seasons. He signed a 5-year contract in December and now is signed through the 2017 season. Kill has battled seizures this season and has the Gophers off to a 1-6 start in his first year in Minnesota.

The Gopher football team welcomed back head coach Jerry Kill Thursday. He was released from the hospital and attended practice Thursday. He had a seizure near the end of the game last week at home against New Mexico State. The Gophers host Miami-Ohio this Saturday at 2:30, pregame on AM 1390-the Fan at 1:30. Kill is expected to coach the team Saturday.
