Gophers’ Hoffarber Expected To Play Thursday

The Gopher men's basketball team is expected to have guard Blake Hoffarber available to them when they host Illinois Thursday night. Head coach Tubby Smith says Hoffarber is expected to be okay despite suffering a knee injury Sunday against Ohio State. He wore a brace on his left knee in the 2nd half of Sunday's loss against the Buckeyes. Hoffarber leads the team in scoring averaging more than 14 points a game.

#1 Buckeyes Rout #20 Gophers

The top ranked Ohio State men's basketball team defeated the 20th ranked Gophers 82-69 at Williams Arena Sunday afternoon. Minnesota trailed by 8 at halftime and fell behind by double figures early in the 2nd half. David Lighty led the Buckeyes with 19 points. Blake Hoffarber led Minnesota with 16 points and both Ralph Sampson III and Chip Armelin had 14 points.

The 18th ranked Gopher men's basketball team will play at Indiana tonight at 5:30, pregame on AM 1390-the Fan at 5:00. Minnesota arrived in Indianapolis yesterday but still needed to drive 50 minutes to Bloomington, Indiana. Winter weather is making that tough but the game is expected to go on as scheduled.

#16 Gophers Down Northwestern

The 16th ranked Gopher men's basketball team defeated Northwestern 81-70 Wednesday night to improve to 16-4 overall and 5-3 in the Big Ten. The win is the 4th straight for the Gophers. Minnesota played without point guard Al Nolen, who is out with a broken bone in his foot. He had surgery Wednesday and is expected to be out 4-6 weeks.

Gophers’ Nolen Has Broken Foot

Gopher senior point guard Al Nolen has a broken bone in his foot and will require surgery on Wednesday. Nolen will have a pin put in his foot and no timetable for his return has been announced. Tubby Smith would not rule out a possible return for Nolen this season.

The Gopher men's basketball team is ranked #15 this week in the Associated Press top 25 and #19 in the ESPN/USA Today poll. Minnesota is 14-4 overall and 3-3 in the Big Ten.

The 25th ranked Gopher men's basketball team defeated Iowa 69-59 Sunday evening at Williams Arena. Trevor Mbakwe came off the bench to lead Minnesota with 16 points and 12 rebounds, Al Nolen added 13 points and Ralph Sampson III added 11 points.

The 25th ranked Gopher men's basketball team defeated #8 Purdue Thursday night at Williams Arena. Al Nolen made the game-winning basket with 3:05 left when he hit a 3-point basket breaking a 67-all tie. No one scored the rest of the way.

The 25th ranked Gopher men's basketball team will host #8 Purdue tonight at 6pm, pregame on AM 1390-the Fan at 5:30. Junior forward Trevor Mbakwe will not start tonight's game as punishment for being arrested Monday for a violation of a no-contact order by posting a message on his ex-girlfriend's facebook page.

Gophers’ Mbakwe Jailed

University of Minnesota forward Trevor Mbakwe was jailed Monday for violating a harassment restraining order. Police say Mbakwe was booked into Ramsey County Jail on misdemeanor charges for posting a message on a St. Paul woman's Facebook page.
