Gopher Men’s Basketball Routs St. Peters

The Gopher men's basketball team improved to 10-1 after a 69-47 win over St. Peter's Saturday afternoon at Williams Arena. Minnesota led 34-23 at halftime and cruised in the 2nd half. Ralph Sampson III led the Gophers with 15 points and 8 rebounds, Julian Welch added 11 points and Rodney Williams chipped in 10. The Gophers shot 46 percent from the field while St. Peters shot 39 percent.

The Gopher men's basketball team defeated Appalachian State 70-56 Tuesday night at Williams Arena. Minnesota finished the game on a 18-4 run after the game was tied at 52 apiece. Rodney Williams led the Gophers with 18 points and 6 rebounds and Julian Welch had 15 points.

The Gopher men's basketball team defeated USC 55-40 Saturday afternoon at Williams Arena to improve to 8- 1. Minnesota led 28-16 at halftime and held on in the 2nd half. Julian Welch led the Gophers with 16 points and Rodney Williams added 12 points and 9 rebounds. Minnesota shot 48 percent from the field while USC shot just 32 percent.

The Gophers will play tonight without top scorer and rebounder Trevor Mbakwe who is out of for the the season with a torn ACL in his right knee.

Gophers’ Mbakwe Done For The Year

Gopher senior forward Trevor Mbakwe is reportedly done for the season with a torn ACL in his right knee. The injury was suffered Sunday night when the team played in Orlando, Florida in the Old Spice Classic Championship game against Dayton. Mbakwe layed on the court before he was assisted off the court without putting any pressure on the knee.

The more devastating loss is the injury to leading scorer and rebounded Trevor Mbakwe. Mbakwe suffered a severe knee injury early in the 2nd half while positioning himself for a rebound.

The Gopher men's basketball team defeated Fairfield of Connecticut 67-57 Thursday night to improve to 3-0. Both Minnesota and Fairfield turned the ball over too much. The Gophers had 23 turnovers while Fairfield had 20. Trevor Mbakwe led the Gophers with 20 points and 10 rebounds and he did most of his damage from the free throw line where he was 16-18.

The Gopher men's basketball team defeated South Dakota State 71-55 Monday night to improve to 2-0. Minnesota trailed by 3 early in the 2nd half before overpowering the Jackrabbits. Trevor Mbakwe led the Gophers with 17 points and 10 rebounds, Ralph Sampson III had 10 points and Chip Armelin added 9 points for Minnesota.
