Gopher senior point guard Al Nolen has a broken bone in his foot and will require surgery on Wednesday. Nolen will have a pin put in his foot and no timetable for his return has been announced. Tubby Smith would not rule out a possible return for Nolen this season.

University of Minnesota forward Trevor Mbakwe was jailed Monday for violating a harassment restraining order. Police say Mbakwe was booked into Ramsey County Jail on misdemeanor charges for posting a message on a St. Paul woman's Facebook page.

Minnesota trailed by 4 at halftime and tied the game late but the Badgers prevailed in both team's Big Ten opener. Devoe Joseph and Ralph Sampson III each had 14 points to lead Minnesota and Trevoe Mbakwe added 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Gophers.
