Fall is a great time of year to fish in Minnesota. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON. He says fall can be the best time to fish but the weather hasn't cooperated quite yet.
The duck hunting opening weekend was last weekend and even though the DNR doesn't have any numbers to report Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News indicates those who did hunt had success but participation overall remains down. Schmitt says due to the drought birds and hunters moved from small bodies of water, like ponds, to larger bodies of water.
Duck hunting season starts Saturday in Minnesota. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON. He says waterfowl hunting in Minnesota and in North America is down and has been moving that direction for quite awhile.
The drought in Central Minnesota will impact duck hunters. Duck hunting season begins September 23rd in Minnesota will continue through October 1st and then again from October 7 - November 26.
The early teal hunting season ran from September 2-6, early goose started September 2 and goes through September 17th and Bear hunting started September 1st and continues through October 15.

Late summer fishing can be challenging. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON. He says due to warm weather this summer certain types of leeches aren't as available as they were earlier in the year.
The Minnesota DNR released their hunting regulations booklet online this week with the printed version available at the end of the month. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON. He indicates deer hunting license costs are unchanged this year with archery, firearms and muzzleloader are $34, with bonus permits remaining the same at $18.
The Minnesota State legislature at this year's session made it legal for crossbows to be used during the archery deer hunt in Minnesota starting this September. Prior to this year's decision by the Minnesota State Legislature people who were 60 years of age or older or had a disability would be allowed to use a crossbow.
