Twins Beat A’s In Home Opener

The Twins defeated the Oakland A's 2-1 Friday night in their home opener at Target Field. Oakland took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and led until the 8th inning when the Twins got RBI singles from Denard Span and Joe Mauer. Carl Pavano threw 8 innings with 4 hits and 1 earned run allowed to get the win and improve to 1-1.

The Twins named veteran Carl Pavano as their opening day starting pitcher April 1 at Toronto. Pavano was 17-11 last season with the Twins and he signed a 2-year contract extension with the Twins in the off season. Pavano is 35 years old and is coming off one of the best season in his career. Twins catcher Joe Mauer is downplaying the lubricating shots he received recently in his left knee after having surgery on the knee in the off season.
