For the first time ever, the sport of extreme horse skijoring is coming to Minnesota. The event is being held this Saturday at Canterbury Park in Shakopee. Spokesman Ted Slather says it's a combination of horse racing and skiing.

This Saturday is the biggest day of the year at Canterbury Park in Shakopee - and they won't have a single live race. Spokesman Jeff Maday says they'll have between 10,000 and 12,000 people come out to place a bet on the Kentucky Derby - the first jewel in horse racing's Triple Crown.

Minnesota horse racing fans are getting ready for the Belmont Stakes. Saturday California Chrome will attempt to become the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed did it in 1978. Canterbury Park spokesman Jeff Mayday says they're expecting 12,000 to 15,000 people to come out to the track to watch the race.

Canterbury Park To Reopen Thursday
With the Minnesota government shutdown over, Canterbury Park in Shakopee plans to reopen Thursday morning. President and CEO Randy Sampson says the doors will open at 10 a.m. for the card casino, simulcast racing will start around midday and live racing will return at 7 p.m. for the first time in three weeks.
