can-am police-fire games

Nineteen firefighters are competing today (Monday) for the title of "Toughest Firefighter Alive" in downtown St. Cloud. Besides local firefighters from St. Cloud, St. Augusta, and Rice, there are also competitors from Rochester, Minnesota, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Toronto, Canada and elsewhere.

Seasoned police veterans from all around Minnesota and Iowa are squaring off in the Can-Am Games' S.W.A.T. team competition.

Some 30 officers and their police dogs are competing for top honors in the police service dog portion of the Can-Am Police-Fire Games.

The crowd was treated to quite a spectacular opening ceremony Sunday night for the Can-Am Police Fire Games. The Can-Am Police Fire Games run through this coming Sunday with 48 events being held around the area. Competitors are in town from 27 states, eight Canadian Provinces, and the Ukraine.

The Can-Am Police Fire Games are ready to begin. It's a showcase for law enforcement and fire service personnel from across North America. Spokeswoman Kelly Sayre says about 1,000 competitors will be in town from 27 states, and eight Canadian Provinces.

When the Can Am Police Fire Games begin in St. Cloud later this month a granite monument to the games will be unveiled. The granite was donated by Quarry Park. Jim McCann is the artist who created the monument.

Volunteers are needed for the Police-Fire games this summer. This year's Can-Am Games are June 24th through July 1st in the St. Cloud area.
