The Blue Angels announced their air show schedule for 2017 this week, and St. Cloud is not on the list. However, that's not a surprise to Granite Rotary President Mike Lehn, because he says they didn't end-up applying for a show in 2017.
The Boy Scouts of Central Minnesota have officially notified the United States Navy's Blue Angels flight demo team and told them they're not interested in hosting an air show in St. Cloud in 2015. Scout Director David Trehey says they sent the Blue Angels their note of cancellation this (Thursday) afternoon. He says he hasn't heard back from them yet, but he anticipates they will.
The automatic budget cuts that grounded the Navy Blue Angels and Air Force Thunderbirds are taking a toll on performers, air show announcers, concessionaires, vendors and others who depend on air shows and the millions of spectators.
Deep budget cuts in Washington mean military flight teams will likely be no-shows at air shows across the U.S. starting this spring, leaving dozens of host cities bracing for thinner crowds and lost tourism dollars.
