Foley officials are putting plans to hire private security patrols for the central Minnesota town on hold. The City Council voted 3-2 Tuesday to go back to Benton County for a new police services contract.
Three people were hurt in a two vehicle crash near Foley Sunday morning. Benton County Sheriff Brad Bennett says 71-year-old Geraldine Cohen of Burnsville was headed south on County Road 66 when she came to a stop. Cohen then allegedly proceeded to cross County Road 4 and struck the passenger side of a westbound car.
Foley will be the first Minnesota city to be patrolled by security guards, not police officers. The city council has voted to sign a six month contract with the private security firm General Security Services.
The Benton County Sheriff is reminding lake home owners to lock-up their fishing equipment. Sheriff Brad Bennett says they've received several reports of thefts on and around the Little Rock Lake and Harris Channel area.
Authorities in Benton County are investigating a series of arson wildfires. Sheriff Brad Bennett says there have three such fires already this spring. The grassfires pose a threat to the public, natural resources and private property.
The clock is ticking on a joint agreement between Benton County and the City of Foley that provides police services to the city. The Foley City Council will discuss the issue at their meeting tonight (Tuesday). Interim City Administrator Sarah Brunn says they're considering a combination option using the Sheriff's Department and also using a security company.
