Members of the St. Cloud Area Convention and Visitors Bureau are in the Fort Myers area this week trying to convince Floridians to come to Minnesota this winter.
This past February I took my first winter vacation in the south Florida area, and I've talking about going back again ever since. So, I was very excited to hear this week that direct flights will soon be available between our own airport here in St. Cloud and the Punta Gorda Airport just north of Fort Myers Beach.
You can fly to Florida out of the St. Cloud Regional Airport starting this fall. Allegiant Airlines announced Tuesday they will be offering nonstop service from St. Cloud to Florida via the Punta Gorda Airport, which is near Fort Meyers.
St. Cloud will be using a state grant to help market the airline service that we still have. The St. Cloud city council has approved accepting a grant from the Minnesota Department of Transportation in the amount of just over $14,000, with a local match of just over $6,000.
Allegiant Airlines has announced it's suspending flights between Duluth International Airport and Phoenix/Mesa Gateway Airport citing a lack of demand.
Just released figures from St. Cloud Regional Airport shows nearly 13,800 passengers either flew into or out of St. Cloud Airport in the first quarter of 2014.
Allegiant Air says it is pulling out of the Rochester International Airport and will end its weekly nonstop flights to Arizona on May 14. Allegiant began offering two weekly nonstop flights to Mesa, Ariz., in November 2012.
