ROSEVILLE - The Minnesota State Patrol says multiple mistakes led to a Blaine man being struck by an SUV as he tried to remove a recliner from a freeway.

The patrol says 49-year-old Sakya Dama was heading north on Interstate 35W in Roseville Saturday when the recliner fell out of a trailer in front of him.

Dama stopped his car and was trying to pull the chair from the roadway when an SUV smashed into his parked car. Dama also was struck and was taken to HCMC, where he's in serious condition.

State Patrol Lt. Tiffani Nielson says it's never safe to stop in a freeway lane.

Nielson says loads need to be secured so they don't fly out. And she says drivers need to be alert to any obstructions.
